CV

I'm a sixth-year PhD student in pure mathematics at the University of Illinois at Chicago, advised by Wouter Van Limbeek. I will be on the postdoc job market in Fall 2024!

Research

My work is in the intersection of metric and projective geometry. Keywords: divisible convex sets, Hilbert geometries, p-uniform convexity, CAT(κ) spaces, Finsler geometry

β-Uniform Convexity and Divisible Domains [arXiv:2410.20071]

Conferences and Workshops

Here is a list of places we may have met before:

September 27-29, 2024: Big Ideas in Dynamics and Geometry at the University of Illinois at Chicago.

August 16-18, 2024: Buckeye Metric Geometry Workshop at the Ohio State University.

May 29 - June 2, 2023: Groups and Dynamics in Geometry in honor of Ursula Hamenstädt in Ascona, Switzerland

May 15-19, 2023: Dynamics, Rigidity and Arithmetic in Hyperbolic Geometry at ICERM

April 1, 2023: Chicago Action Now aka Dynamics Day at UIC

Outreach and Mentorship

Young Scholars Program: Since 2022, I have been a lead instructor for UIC's Young Scholars Program, a free math camp for Chicago-area high schoolers. In previous years, we've taught weeks focused on number theory and cryptography, graph theory, algorithms and data, and probability. Ask me about origami activities!

Math Circles of Chicago: Starting in 2019, I've frequently been a teacher for Math Circles of Chicago, a free after-school math program for Chicago-area kids. For two academic years, I ran a Math Circle at Gads Hill Community Center in Chicago's Pilsen neighborhood.

Directed Reading Program: In Summer 2024 I was a graduate mentor for UIC's DRP and my mentee was Juan Rosendo. We read Curvature in Hilbert Geometries by Kelly and Straus, Geometries by A.B. Sossinksy, and Discrete Geometry for Electoral Geography by Moon Duchin and Bridget Eileen Tenner.

Teaching

This fall, I am a Teaching Assistant Coordinator (TAC).

Here is an abbreviated list of previous courses I've taught at UIC:

MATH 294 Abstract Algebra Workshop (Instructor of Record)

MATH 211 Calculus III Emerging Scholars Program Workshop (Instructor of Record)

MATH 210 Calculus III

MATH 181 Calculus II

MATH 110 College Algebra

MATH 090 Intermediate Algebra (Instructor of Record)

For Fun

Geogebra: Here are some demos I've made in geogebra over the years.

The locus of harmonic conjugates of a point in an ellipse is a straight line

Computing and visualizing the midpoint of a line segment in the Hilbert metric

Drawing a unit ball of the Hilbert metric in an ellipse

Drawing Desargues' Theorem

Chalktober: In 2019, I did a photography project that I called "Chalktober", and you can find the photos here. Six years later, I'm revisiting chalkboards around the department for Chalktober 2.0. Check back here for updates!

Dance: I dance with Latin Rhythms Dance Company in Chicago. Come see us perform at the Chicago International Salsa Congress!
